The End of Empire

According to the 10th Amendment to the US Constitution, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people." In other words, Congress is allowed to exercise power only in those areas of government specifically stated in the Constitution. Everything else is outside their realm of authority.

This is why Ron Paul consistently votes against measures that would - in some way or another - "benefit" his constituents. If the Constitution says Congress is not allowed to do something, then Ron Paul votes according to the Constitution, regardless of how much pork it might send to his congressional district.

Would that we had 453 other such men and women in Congress, huh?

In related news, the United Kingdom is coming undone. According to The Telegraph, the MPs (members of Parliament) who represent constituents in England are fed up with members from Scotland and Wales being allowed to vote on laws that affect only English constituents. A move is afoot to prohibit Scottish and Welsh MPs from making laws that do not affect those in Scotland and Wales. What the English find particularly odious is that a great deal of English money gets sent to Scotland, with no appreciable benefit, and in fact a noticeable detriment to, the English themselves.

The United Kingdom is devolving. In other words, power is moving away from a centralized government and back toward more dispursed government. This is precisely the type of model mandated in the US Constitution. Go Ron Paul!

Finally, Fred Reed's column of November 16th reminds us that America used to be a place where it was okay to be better than average. America has largely been overrun by scoundrels and underachievers. This is really nothing new, since power tends to attract such riff-raff, and the bigger the government, the more riff-raff are attracted. However, the US Constitution was crafted to try to keep power minimized and dispursed, so that the scoundrels and underachievers were less able to parasitically suck the life out of those who wanted to simply live their own life their own way and be left alone. Ron Paul is the only voice in the presidential race today who supports the rights of the individual against the power of the scoundrels and the group-think underachievers.

Support Ron Paul for President 2008.
